There are a few bloggers in particular that have acknowledged me in new and unexpected ways:
Nicole at Rivera Runs Through It shared my post on StumbleUpon -- which I'm still learning to navigate. Her comment on my last post was so surprising and sweet, it made my day. And if I remember correctly, the last time she left me a comment the Kreativ Blogger award came with it. She's just full of surprises!
And speaking of Blogger awards...
Thank you to Andrea at The Enchanted Writer for my second blogger award:
I'm not entirely sure what a Liebster is, but I'll take it :) This award comes with the following rules:
- Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog. Done.
- Link back to the blogger who presented the award to you. Done.
- Copy and paste the blog award on your blog. Done.
- Present the Liebster Blog Award to 5 blogs of 200 followers or less.
- Let them know they have been chosen by leaving a comment at their blog.
Five blogs, eh? Hmmm... I had to pass the Kreativ Blogger award on to seven people, and many of them already had it. Now I have to find five that haven't received either award and have less than 200 followers? Aw, that's too hard. How about I just pick five that I didn't recognize the first time, m'kay?
Jeanne at Barefoot Girl
Hazel at Pablo's Angel
Catherine at Rainbows and Unicorns
Mark at The Rambling Person
Jax at Raviolis and Waterworks
If you've already received this award or blog awards aren't your thing (Cat), no worries. Consider this a free 'plug' for your blog. I can't expect everyone to follow the rules when I skirted them myself (I'm such a rebel!)
Thank you to my nephew Mike and his wife Heather (from Oh! The Horror!) for thee best Father's Day card ever:
And yes, the inside plays the Married...With Children theme song. I have no idea where they found this, since MWC hasn't aired in 15 years (though I have been enjoying the reruns on VH1 Classic lately).
And a big 'thank you' to the New Jersey Devils for an exciting and unexpected run to the Stanley Cup Finals. After last year's MacLean debacle, Parise's injury, and Kovalchuk's struggles I honestly thought the Devils' best days were behind them. Boy was I wrong. They survived a hell of a scare from the Florida Panthers, destroyed their arch-rival Flyers and chased away the ghosts of "Matteau! Matteau!" by defeating the hated Rangers:
Amazingly this sixth-seeded team that wasn't expected to get past the second round ended up with home ice in the championship series. Unfortunately the Kings were unstoppable this spring (especially on the road) and won the Stanley Cup in six games. Jonathan Quick was a brick wall, but Marty Brodeur more than held his own against the younger, deeper L.A. attack. It's too bad Kovy was playing with a severe back injury for most of the playoffs; he wanted this sooo bad but you could tell he was hurting. Unless you're a Canadian 'expert', in which case he's just another lazy Russian who only cares about money.
So yeah, we lost. And our 40 year-old goalie doesn't have much left and we have no one to replace him. And yeah, Zach Parise might sign with another team, which would set the franchise back for a long time. And yeah, the team may or may not be bankrupt, the attendance still sucks, and Steve Bernier might be the NHL's answer to Steve Bartman. But you know what? We played in our fifth Cup final in 17 years, the long playoff run may have saved the franchise, and even though the Cup won't be coming back to Jersey, the Devils did something that no NHL team has done since 1945.
Plus, Zach made it abundantly clear that he won't be signing with the Rangers. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I owe Kazehana and Jeanne a reply, which I will do today. And this weekend I will do my best to stop by all of your blogs and comment as much as I can. You've all taken the time to read my posts and leave thoughtful comments, and I want to do the same without feeling rushed or distracted. It might take me a little longer than normal, but I will get back to you ASAP.
Thanks again everyone, and have a great weekend!
Thanks again everyone, and have a great weekend!

Hey it's always nice to be recognized. If I remember correctly "liebster" is German for favourite. Or something like that. That's the story they attach to the award anyway. Congratulations on getting another one, and a big well done to the big brutish boys of hockey. I love the fact that the Married With Children card plays the theme. You should treasure that, totally.
ReplyDeleteAh, that makes sense. And it sounds more manly now. Everything sounds tougher in German.
DeleteOkay, first of all that card is so hilarious & perfect! That's the best when you find the exact right thing for someone & they adore it! Complete with theme song & everything, classic!
ReplyDeleteWow kudos on the blog awards, 2 in the past month? Not too shabby my friend.
I was pulling for the Devils too as you know. I guess we'll see what happens with Parise huh? Has he said for sure he DOESN'T want to be in NJ next season? We (the B's) just resigned Kelly & Campbell (holla!) and hopefully more news on signings to come soon. We have a goalie to spare if Marty high-tails it out of there - Turco I mean, we're keeping Anton & Tuukka thank you very much :-)
I have to say, just when I think my family doesn't know/care about me...one of them surprise me with something like that. It's a little thing but it means a lot.
DeleteZach has said his first choice is to stay in NJ. But once he gets to July 1st all bets are off. Minnesota already came out and said they're gonna break the bank for him (tampering, anyone?) so we'll see if he truly cares about winning, or if he's all about the green.
I can't imagine Turco returning, but you never know. Wonder what the B's are looking for in the off-season?
You're adorable. And that Father's Day card makes me wish I were a dude with a family so I could receive it on Father's Day.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Happy Father's Day! :p
Thank you! That means a lot coming from Adorably Dead ;-)
DeleteI wasn't even aware of Father's Day until I saw all the ads promoting 'Father's Day' sales. We've been so busy with the new baby that I wouldn't expect any recognition anyway.
They probably have 'Sex And The City' cards for mothers...does that sound appealing? lol.
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWas hoping for seven games, but it didn't happen. Once the NBA Finals end, it will be a long five - six weeks until preseason football.
Musical cards are very popular right now, although one for a show that old is surprising. They did good to find it.
Oh man, seven games would have kicked ass. Especially since they're no way NJ loses a Game 7 at home after coming back from 0-3. Guess that's why the refs made sure to end it in 6.
DeleteNo, I'm not bitter.
You are too sweet, Chris, thank you!! I'm happy to say that I finally got my act together and subscribed to your blog via e-mail last time. What a sweet treat it was to open my inbox and find my first-ever delivered "The Pedestrian Writer" included a shout-out to me!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your second award, as always, well-deserved.
I'm looking forward to more juicy writing in my inbox from now on :)
By the way, I am in the midst of writing a post about StumbleUpon for StoryDam.com which I will probably cross-post on my blog when I'm done with it. Hopefully, it will give you a nice intro to the tool (that's my goal anyway), if you are so inclined to learn about it.
Haha that's awesome! I really must find my way to your blog more often, I've been all over the place lately b/c of the new baby and all the new friends I made from IWSG. This post was one of my shortest, but I'll make sure the next one is a worthwhile read.
DeleteI'm definitely interested in reading about StumbleUpon. I read your post about Reddit, but that just looked waaay too confusing for me. I'm already overwhelmed by the internet!
Aww thank you so much! And congrats on getting so many awards too :)
ReplyDeleteI fucking loved Married with Children - the theme tune is pretty awesome too so I would have loved to have got that card :)
Yep, only 57 more and I'll have as many as you! But who's counting? :)
DeleteMWC is my fave show ever...Al Bundy is my hero! And "Love And Marriage" played at my wedding. The DJ thought we were boring, because that's the default cake cutting song. But I insisted on it!
Ha! That card is awesome! Have a great Father's Day, Chris!
ReplyDeleteThanks Yvonne!
DeleteGod, every time I try to reply to this post, something comes up. Attemp #5!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your award, you deserve it! Thanks so much for giving one to me, you're a darling! You're one of my 'liebste' (no 'r') bloggers, too! I'm going to be a devious monkey like you and not comply, though! It usually causes a lot of bitching when I do. It seems most bloggers hate following the rules. Don't we all?!
I love that card, it's a classic! I hope you had a good Father's Day and were thoroughly spoiled!
I watched a hockey movie called 'Goon' last night, it made me think of you. It was hilarious! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goon_%28film%29)
Catch up with you later, babe. :) ♥♥♥
Ah yes, 'Goon'..haha. My nephew told me about that just the other day. He said it's a worthy successor to 'Slap Shot'. He also said that 'Inglourious Basterds' was "butt sweat" so I'm not sure I should trust him.
DeleteBut if you say it's hilarious I'll give it a go :)
So my phone won't let me reply on the first comment stream but whatevs...anyway to answer your question about the B's - we need young & agressive wingers & back up defensemen. With Horton maybe never coming back & all the injuries to the D that's my guess.
ReplyDeleteOn other news I had a dream last night that Matt, some friends & I met you & your whole family camping in cabins somewhere. It was kinda weird but cool that we all met each other. Your wife cut off her hair to her chin & dyed it peroxide blonde, I ate your last slice of pizza & you were wearing a black velor track suit & scali cap. Yeah, it was that kind of dream lol.
Yo!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to say thank you so much for your comments, and I'm so sorry it's taken me this long to reply to them. I've been a slacker >.<
I'll have to give the bad movies thing a try. I've even resorted back to my BSNS101 textbook (n00bAccounting+n00bFinance) out of desperation, but it seems to be getting a bit better. Long&boring movies? Definitely the version of Chushingura we had to watch in class. 4 hours of medieval court dramas? Zzzzzzz. Have you ever seen any of Akria Kurosawa's films? He was a GOD of black&white!
I'll have to take my bike out for some nice long runs and get some pics of the memorials around my area. There are a crapton of ANZAC memorials, since the Gallipoli battle wiped out a significant percentage of the eligible young males of that generation :/
Socially inept people of the world unite and shuffle your feet! :D If you ever need a reminder about the link between social awkwardness and epic creativity, just look up Van Gough. Totally bonkers, but a consummate artist.
Stumble is an amazing source of information and inspiration, but also a massive timesuck. "Just one more click, just one more click" Two hours later. . .
That has to be the BEST Fathers Day card EVER! What a lucky score!
Ice hockey? It looks confusing and violent and fun. The blokes who play it certainly have bigger balls than Aussie Rules or American Football!
I hope you have a good weekend. Stay warm!
Thankyou for the award! I do love free plug-ins! You rebel.
ReplyDeleteIce hokey brings pictures of blood and broken limbs to the forefront of my mind. Because thats probably what would happen if I tried to play it!
Still, I hope my fathers day will be as spiffy as yours!
Ohh, thanks so much for the award!!! I smiled real big and "eeped" when I saw my link!!!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I was happy when the Devils won too, but don't tell my Islanders that ;)
Congratz on the award... looks like you've got a great blog here
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteI'm coming over from Alex's IWSG, by the way. Nice to meet you. :)
Congrats on the award! About your two beginnings, I've been told by my editor that spending too much time relating what happened in the past doesn't move the story forward and gets pretty slow and un-engaging for the reader. I would suggest you look for a way to tell the present story of Charlie with paragraphs here and there that tell about his past and how he got where he is. The present and the future are always more important and should be the main focus of your story.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
